Who’s Paying To Prop Up Corrupt Oligarchs In Ukraine? You Are.

It’s amazing how little Americans understand about NATO given the obligations of the alliance and the risks to everyday Americans.

Many Americans do understand that NATO is a group of nations connected by a treaty to provide for their mutual defense. But fewer understand that in recent years, NATO has morphed from a defensive alliance to an offensive alliance that is marching eastward toward Russia (by adding new members) and has a goal of deposing Putin and returning Russia to the weak vassal status it suffered through in the 1990s.

Only experts have a full grasp of Article V of the NATO treaty. In common language, Article V says, “an attack on one is an attack on all.” This means that if any NATO country is attacked, then all NATO members must come to the aid of the victim nation and join in a war against the attacker.

In the real world, this means that if Russia and Belarus infringed part of Lithuania (a NATO member) to secure a land bridge to Kaliningrad (isolated Russian territory on the Baltic Sea), then the U.S. would be obliged to defend Lithuania and therefore confront Russia in a battle between two nuclear-armed powers.

Can Americans even find Lithuania on a map? Have Americans even heard of Kaliningrad? Do Americans understand that we could be dragged into a nuclear war with Russia under Article V over the slightest border dispute near the Baltic Sea?

Perhaps not, but that’s exactly where we are through a combination of NATO expansion, Article V, and a desire to overthrow Putin.

The U.S. is mostly footing the bill for the War in Ukraine. U.S. taxpayers have thrown over $100 billion into Ukrainian hands with no accountability. Due to the recent actions of Hungary as described in this article, Americans may have to pay even larger amounts to Ukraine out of their own pockets.

Hungary is a member of the European Union, EU. The EU was preparing to vote on $18 billion of new assistance to Ukraine. Hungary vetoed the proposal inside the EU. This means that the U.S. will have to pick up the tab. In fact, we’ve already done so in the recent defense appropriations act.

And, when the U.S. picks up the tab, that means you pick up the tab as a taxpayer. Of course, one of the motivations behind support for Ukraine is that a lot of the money is kicked back to the Democratic Party in the form of campaign contributions from what is a giant money-laundering machine.

The war is corrupt from top to bottom. The only good news is that it may be over this winter as the Russian offensive overwhelms what’s left of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
