We Don’t Like To Jump The Gun In Politics. But This Was Too Good To Pass Up.
We’re not a political newsletter service. Our focus is firmly on the economy and finance and what works best for investor portfolios. Still, politics affects economics, especially in an election year.
Candidates make all kinds of promises. When the candidate actually wins, they are expected to follow up on those promises (not many do), so it’s important to keep an eye on the political scene in order not to get blindsided when it comes to fiscal policy and big projects like the infrastructure bill and the Green New Scam based on phony climate alarmism.
We plan to write a lot more about politics as we get nearer to the 2022 mid-term elections on November 8. That’s still a few months away. The 2024 presidential election seems light-years away and is not a particular focus at this stage at all. But when this article came to our attention, we had to pass it along to our readers.
As Yogi Berra said, “It’s déjà vu all over again!”
The article describes how both Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are already planning to run for president in 2024. Unbelievable. Bernie Sanders was born in 1941 and will be 83 years old on election day 2024. Elizabeth Warren was born in 1949 and will be 75 years old on election day 2024.
I personally don’t care much about age; I care about leadership skills, energy, and mental acuity, all of which are critical in a president.
By way of comparison, Joe Biden has let it be known that he plans to run for reelection in 2024. Biden was born in 1942 and will be just a few days from 82 years old on election day in 2024. The problem with Biden is not age; it’s that he’s noncompos mentis and is visibly failing both mentally and physically.
That’s the key to the Sanders and Warren moves. They’re looking ahead and concluding that Biden will be unfit to run again (if he makes it that far) so the field is wide open.
I’ve met Warren personally and had a nice discussion with her. I don’t agree with her politics, but I can attest to her energy level and brain. I haven’t met Bernie Sanders, but he seems even more energetic and brainier than Warren, politics aside.
If Biden, Sanders, and Warren all run in 2024, their combined ages will be 240 years, which is longer than the entire period from George Washington to Joe Biden.
I keep hoping the Baby Boomers will step aside and let people in their 40s or 50s run for president. Of course, Biden and Sanders are actually older than the Baby Boomers (who were born starting in 1946).
The 2024 election is far off and a lot will happen, but so far it’s shaping up as a replay of 2020 at least on the Democratic side. Hey, who knows? Maybe we can even get Hillary to give it another try!
