Trump Says He’ll Fix His Mistakes If Reelected. But Do Old Guys Ever Change?

There’s a long list of Trump policy positions I agree with completely. Build the wall, lower taxes, put tariffs on Chinese imports, try to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States, hold NATO’s feet to the fire on defense expenditures, support local schooling and parental rights, and many more.

While I support Trump’s positions, I must observe that no one was worse than Trump at carrying out his own policies.

Of the 1,800 miles of wall needed, Trump built 200. That’s a failure where I come from. NATO is still not paying its share. Trump did not do enough to cut off aid to Ukraine, which opened the door for Biden’s war.

Many of Trump’s failures were due to his poor management skills and poor appointments. I consider Christopher Wray, Director of the FBI, to be a neo-fascist in terms of targeting Republicans and letting Democrats off the hook. Who appointed Christopher Wray? It was Donald Trump.

Jeff Sessions was the worst Attorney General in history who let the FBI run wild on the Russia Hoax investigation. Who appointed Jeff Sessions? It was Donald Trump.

Why did Trump not fire James Comey the day after his inauguration in 2017? Instead, he let Comey build the Russia trap that paralyzed the first three years of the Trump administration.

Trump put Jared Kushner in charge of the COVID vaccine project. Kushner and Big Pharma came up with a fake vaccine that did not stop infection, does not stop the spread, and leads to many deadly side effects.

Why did Trump not fire the lying Anthony Fauci after the first meeting? There were many qualified experts, including Dr. Scott Atlas and Professor Jay Bhattacharya, who could have filled that role.

Trump operated under the false belief that if he made bad choices, he could just turn around and say, “You’re fired!” That may work in New York real estate, but it definitely does not work in Washington DC where Civil Service protection and media scrutiny are there to support the enemies of Trump.

In this article, Trump claims that he’s learned his lesson and is ready to make good appointments if reelected. I hope that’s true, but I’m skeptical for two reasons.

I don’t believe 75-year-old guys from Queens are ready to change their style or if they’re even capable. The cliché “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” applies in spades.

The second reason is the swamp is still waiting and will pick your policies clean if you’re not ready. There are about 8,000 federal jobs the president can fill at his pleasure. They’re listed in a directory called the Plum Book.

Obama was so organized that his team had a name for every job. Many of them are still in place. Trump had no more than a handful of names and was completely unprepared for the process. We may find out soon if there has been any improvement in that state of affairs.
