The Strangest Reason Biden Will Lose

There’s a long list of reasons why Biden either won’t be the nominee for president or will lose the election if he is. The list includes obvious points like age, physical infirmity, senility, low intelligence, and corruption. There are more political reasons, such as the lowest approval rating of any president in the history of polling (lower than Richard Nixon at the height of Watergate), challenges from independent candidates like RFK, Jr. and Cornel West, and primary challengers in his own party like Dean Phillips (D-Minn.).

This article reports on an almost unknown development that may hurt Biden worse than the factors described above.

Every candidate relies on a base. Donald Trump’s base is about 40% of the electorate. He needs about 50% to win (depending on state-by-state electoral vote contests) and has trouble getting there, but his 40% base is unshakeable.

Biden’s base is also around 40% and consists of a mélange of blacks, Hispanics, gays, white women, coastal elites, academics, and the trans community. The problem with Biden’s base is that it includes a lot of segments that have to be assuaged separately. If any one segment breaks away or does not vote, then the base is not large enough to elect Biden.

Among the groups in the base, the most loyal are blacks who vote 90% or more Democrat. Now Biden has taken steps to alienate black men in the strangest way. Biden is trying to ban menthol cigarettes.

Menthol cigarettes have a slight minty taste. (Full disclosure: I occasionally smoke cigars, but I only smoked two packs of cigarettes in my life, when I was about 12 years old. They were menthol – Newport).

No one argues that smoking is good – it isn’t and it does cause cancer and other pulmonary diseases. Cigarette packs contain grotesque photos of diseased lungs. The price is about $10.00 for a pack of twenty.

The government has done everything possible to discourage smoking short of an outright ban. Now they are imposing an outright ban on menthol only.

It turns out that menthol cigarettes are disproportionally favored by black men. Biden needs their support to win, but black men have already been defecting to the Republican party, the historic party of blacks after the Civil War.

With the menthol cigarette ban, more black men may defect or simply stay home. It’s another example of the nanny state Democrats shooting themselves in the foot because they believe they’re smarter than everyone else. They’re not.
