The Exodus From New York Has Begun
Longevity is no defense when the State of New York makes it impossible to conduct your business. As reported here, the 200-year-old gun manufacturer Remington has decided to close its plant in Ilion, New York and move to a new facility in LaGrange, Georgia.
As described in the article, “Remington said it no longer feels welcomed in left-leaning New York.” The Remington CEO said the company was moving to Georgia because it’s “a state that supports and welcomes the firearms industry.” Remington said it will invest $100 million in the new operation and plans to hire more than 800 people over the course of the next five years.
Of course, that new investment and those jobs could be in New York but for the hostile anti-business environment created by the state legislature and recent governors such as the disgraced Andrew Cuomo and the incompetent Kathy Hochul.
Beyond the difficulties of day-to-day business management (which the State of New York impedes) stands the possibility of new gun laws that attempt to hold gun manufacturers liable for crimes committed with their weapons. Of course, that ignores the fact that gun crimes are mostly the result of lack of enforcement, de-funding the police, no-bail laws that put criminals back out on the streets, and liberal judges who release alleged criminals faster than the police can bring them in.
It would be nice to believe that Remington’s move would be a wake-up call for the radical state legislature and the governor. But it’s not.
They will continue to sleepwalk through their woke fantasies and extreme progressive bias until employment, innovation, and investment in New York are dead. They make wake up then, but it will be too late to save the state.
