The Escalation in Ukraine Won’t Stop, So Nuclear Threat Won’t Stop Either

We’ve warned for over two years that the greatest danger from the War in Ukraine is not the war itself, but the escalatory dynamic that could lead to World War III and nuclear annihilation. Unfortunately, that danger remains, and the probability of nuclear war increases continually.

The White House and Zelensky only understand escalation and have no idea how to wind down the war with diplomacy and peace talks. Deft diplomacy by the U.S. would have prevented the war in the first place, but U.S. leaders like Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan and Joe Biden are diplomatic amateurs. They wanted the war, and once it started, they continued escalating with money and weapons in the false hope that somehow Ukraine could win (they can’t) or that the Russian people would overthrow Putin (they won’t).

Russia was always going to win the war because of its far greater population, economy and technology. The U.S. and NATO wonder weapons – HIMARS, Patriot anti-missile batteries, ATACAMS missiles, Bradly Fighting Vehicles, Leopard, Challenger and Abrams tanks and now F-16s – have all failed because of Russian jamming, Russian anti-aircraft capability or Russia’s ability to destroy them on the battlefield.

Still, the U.S., NATO and Zelensky persist. The latest effort is a strategic attack by the last of Ukraine’s reserves inside Russia with the aim of capturing a Russian nuclear power plant near Kursk and using it as a bargaining chip to gain Russian concessions. This attack has already failed. The Ukrainian Armed Forces could not make it to the nuclear plant before a Russian counterattack stopped them in their tracks.

Now the Russians will proceed to destroy the attacking force, which will practically be the end of Ukraine’s ability to launch attacks of any kind. The war is ending as expected with a Russian victory. Let’s hope there are no more desperate throws of the dice on the part of Ukraine.
