Q. What’s Worse Than One Dead Tesla? A. A Long Line of Them
The electronic vehicle, EV, scam is worse than you think.
One can only sympathize with the thousands of owners who are finding out the hard way why EV technology was abandoned around 1915 in favor of the internal combustion engine (ICE). It turns out that not only do EV batteries occasionally explode, but they also do not work at all in extreme cold. Of course, extreme cold is exactly what we’ve been experiencing this winter in Chicago, the Upper Midwest, and many parts of America.
There are two specific problems. The first is that EVs don’t make heat from their engines; they’re electric. In an ICE car, the engine makes plenty of heat (it’s exploding gasoline), and it’s relatively easy to blow the heat into the interior of the car to keep passengers warm. It’s also free because the heat is there anyway.
With EVs, you have to power an electric heater with the battery. That runs the battery down faster, reducing the range of the vehicle and it’s also not free because you have to pay for the electricity to do the charge.
Now an even more extreme problem has emerged. In cold weather, the battery loses its charge and will not take a new charge until conditions warm up. (Skiers who take their cell phones while skiing have experienced this; the phones are sometimes dead by the time you get to the top of the lift).
Even if you make it to a charging station with your near-dead battery, there’s no relief because the battery won’t take a charge at all. The charging stations turn into EV graveyards, and the cars have to be towed away at the owner’s expense.
One EV owner at a charging station told a reporter, “Nothing. No juice. Still on zero percent. And this is like three hours being out here after being out here three hours yesterday.” Another EV owner said, “This is crazy. It’s a disaster. Seriously.” A dealer expert explained, “It’s not plug and go. You have to precondition the battery, meaning you have to get the battery up to the optimal temperature to accept a fast charge.”
Now they tell us. One more nail in the coffin of EVs.
