Medical Warnings on Social Media? Or Just Another Censorship Plan?

We’re used to reading medical warnings on pharmaceuticals, devices and consent forms. Some of them seem highly technical and just legal boilerplate. Others are useful in warning about side effects, allergic reactions, and drugs that should not be taken in conjunction with other drugs.

These warnings are required by agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration and may be offered by the pharmaceutical companies, manufacturers, or by medical providers such as doctors and hospitals. Some warnings appear on consumer items that have deleterious effects, such as cigarettes and alcohol.

That all seems fine as far as it goes. Yet, we’ve also seen the politicization of medical science in recent years.

During the COVID pandemic, the mandatory vaccinations were a crime against humanity because the “vaccines” were not true vaccines but were experimental gene-modification treatments that did not stop infection or spread of the disease but did produce fatal side effects. Other warnings about masks, social distancing and lockdowns were pure nonsense forced on the American people by bureaucrats and teachers’ unions who were more concerned about themselves than the population.

We also became aware of extreme censorship during the pandemic. If you pointed out that the vaccines were practically useless for all but a few patients and that masks don’t work, you could lose your job or be banned from social media.

That’s why this new warning from the U.S. Surgeon General is so troubling. It’s an effort by the Surgeon General to slap warning labels on social media. The idea is to protect adolescents from the worst effects of social media including anxiety, depression, bullying and addiction.

We can all agree that mental health is a legitimate medical concern. We can also agree that social media can have many adverse effects on impressionable youth. But why warning labels? What about the potential positive influence of parents, schools, civic organizations, religious activities and education? Isn’t that the best remedy?

It would be nice if we could get behind the Surgeon General’s warning idea. But after we’ve been lied to so often by the government, especially on medical issues surrounding the pandemic and after seeing government censorship in action during the 2020 presidential campaign when the FBI blocked stories about Hunter Biden and the Biden Crime Family, who could blame the American people for seeing the Surgeon General’s idea as just another backdoor form of censorship?

Trust is an immensely valuable asset. But once it’s lost, it’s almost impossible to regain. Unfortunately, the government has lost our trust and does not deserve it back so easily.
