How Biden and Harris Blew Up the Middle East After Trump Brought Peace

Once again, we turn to the inimitable Victor Davis Hanson (known as “VDH”) for analysis that cuts through the smoke, mirrors, and spin and gets right to the heart of the issue. His topic this time is the war in the Middle East.

A year ago, we would have referred to the war in Gaza, but thanks to the incompetence of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, that original war has expanded to include the entire region. Israel is under attack from Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, Palestinians on the West Bank and directly from Iran.

This barrage of attacks from three directions is being supported by Russian aid to Iran in the form of state-of-the-art anti-missile and air defense systems and no doubt intelligence in the form of satellite imagery, geolocation and information from human assets on the ground.

In contrast, the region was relatively peaceful (albeit with the occasional flare-ups) during the Trump administration. That difference was due largely to Trump’s strict sanctions or Iranian oil and refined products exports. Without the revenues from those exports, Iran could not afford to finance an entire region full of terrorists. Trump was able to cut off the head of the snake, which always comes down to money.

VDH points specifically to five causes of the current outbreak of war and terrorism in the region. The first cause is that Biden alienated Saudi Arabia be calling them a “pariah” state. Then, Biden abandoned the Abraham Accords that were moving toward a peace treaty between Saudi Arabia and Israel before Biden blew them up.

Next, Biden relaxed the sanctions on Iran, which enabled Iran to earn over $100 billion in profits to finance the war on Israel. Fourth, Biden and Harris delivered hundreds of millions of dollars more toward the West Bank and Gaza, which was used to support terrorist armies and expand the tunnel network that the Hamas cowards use to hide.

Finally, Biden and Harris pressured Israel to limit their response to the October 7 attacks – the worst one-day massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.
