Hard To Tell the Difference Between the Secret Service and Keystone Cops

We’re all grateful that Donald Trump survived the assassination attempt on July 13. Our prayers are with his family and the innocent participant who was killed by the shooter and the others badly wounded.

The shooting may be over, but the investigation of what happened is just beginning. The conduct of the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) both before and during the shooting was abysmal. In legal terms, it amounted to gross negligence at best, and passive participation in the shooting at worst.

The area around Trump’s rally was not properly secured. The nearby rooftop with a direct line of sight to former President Trump was intentionally excluded from the USSS security perimeter. No one was on the roof the shooter used.

The head of the USSS, Kimberly Cheatle, said she did not station counter-snipers on that roof because it was “sloped” and would be “risky” to put officers there. That’s absurd. The shooter’s roof was less steep than the one closer to Trump that actually did have counter-snipers.

As for risk, that’s practically the job description of USSS officers. They risk their lives daily and are trained to take a bullet to protect the president if needed.

The shooter had no difficulty climbing up the roof, setting up the shot, and shooting at the president and the crowd. Many in the crowd saw the shooter getting into position, alerted police and the USSS, and still nothing was done. Cheatle should resign now but she won’t because in Biden-world no one is held accountable.

The story gets worse. One of the USSS officers was 5’7” and chubby. How is she supposed to create a human shield for Trump who is 6’3”?

As Trump was being removed from the venue, she couldn’t holster her gun and began waving it frantically in the air. Another agent was more concerned about picking up her sunglasses than shielding Trump. Three female agents ran around in circles near Trump’s SUV and showed they did not know how to form a proper security wall.

This was a triumph of DEI over fitness for the protective mission. There’s a lot more to say and you’ll be hearing about it in weeks and months to come. For now, the USSS is simply another name on the list of failed government institutions.
