For This Election Steal, It May Be Time To Call In the Military

Americans have spent so much time lately keeping up with news on efforts to steal elections in places like Arizona, they might not be aware that rigged elections are occurring in ostensibly democratic countries all over the world. The most important example described in this article is Brazil.

In Arizona, the election rig was a two-pronged attack. First, the Democrats used ballot harvesting, which includes going door-to-door to collect ballots that the collectors helpfully fill in for the voter who never leaves her home. It’s easy to print up a bunch of counterfeit ballots, fill them in, and drop them off in the drop boxes while you’re at it.

The second prong was to rig the voting tabulation machines on election day (when more Republicans vote) so they couldn’t read or count the ballots.  Those ballots were then pushed into “Door Three” (a backup manual system). But the Door Three ballots were comingled with counted ballots so there was no way to tell them apart, and they were never counted at all.

In Brazil, the recent presidential election involved the current president Jail Bolsonaro against the socialist Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, known as “Lula.” Lula was previously convicted of corruption and was recently released from prison.

The Lula party rigging methods were more varied than Arizona’s and included good old-fashioned ballot box stuffing and discarding ballots from heavily Bolsonaro districts.

There’s one important difference between Arizona and Brazil. The Arizona rig protests will probably go to the courts, where they will be ignored and the entire matter swept under the rug.

In the case of Bolsonaro, he can enlist the military to enforce Article 142 of the Brazilian Constitution, which authorizes the military to guarantee “constitutional powers” and uphold the “supreme authority of the president.”

If the rule of law and the legitimate role of the president is deemed undermined by Lula vote rigging, then the military can intervene and possibly call for new elections. Too bad the Arizona National Guard won’t intervene if that’s what it takes.
