Democrats’ Obsession with Power Is Causing A String Of Tragedies
I begin this summary with the fact that the cases discussed below are personal tragedies for the victims and their loved ones. We’ll be discussing strokes, alcoholism, dementia, cancer and other debilitating and fatal conditions.
We have nothing but sympathy for the sufferers. Still, these individuals are public officials at the highest levels of government including presidents, Supreme Court justices, U.S. senators, leaders of the House of Representatives and others.
It’s always sad when one of these figures suffers a severe disease. Yet, they are free to retire, not run for reelection or resign for personal reasons. That’s not only acceptable, but it’s also admirable.
That’s not the trend in the Democratic party (and among some Republicans). Instead, what we see are powerful politicians and officials clinging to power at all costs, long beyond the limits of reason and common sense.
The physically and mentally impaired officials imperil good governance and national security by staying in office at all costs. This article looks at Senator John Fetterman (D-PA), who was elected in 2020.
Fetterman suffered a severe stroke in the months before the election. The media and Fetterman’s campaign did their best to cover this up, but ultimately the story broke.
His disability was on full display during a live debate when he could not process spoken language (he used a kind of teleprompter that converted spoken words into a script he could read). His answers were partly incoherent and rambling. (Fortunately for Fetterman, Pennsylvania had early voting and mail-in ballots, so the election was practically decided before the debate even took place).
Now it’s reported that Fetterman has been admitted to Walter Reed Hospital for an extended course of treatment for severe depression. Doctors working with Fetterman say it’s difficult to separate the depression from the stroke symptoms in terms of Fetterman’s disabilities. He clearly cannot serve effectively as a U.S. Senator where debate and persuasion are the coin of the realm. He’s been propped up in office so that his wife, a declared Marxist, can act as a shadow senator.
Similar examples are Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) who is 90 years old and had been mentally disabled for years. Then there’s Joe Biden, 80 years old with severe cognitive decline who is the survivor of two aneurysms in the brain.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg died on the bench at the age of 87 instead of retiring with dignity at a younger age when President Obama could have picked her replacement instead of President Trump. Nancy Pelosi lost her Speaker of the House position (for the second time) when she was 82 years old after struggling with alcohol and impaired cognition. There are many other examples.
UK politicians set the opposite tone. They resign in their 50s or 60s at the least hint of scandal or lack of political support. They can go on to have highly productive careers and are occasionally welcomed back into the political fold. It’s considered bad form to cling to office at all costs, especially when hobbled by disease, extreme old age, and mental disabilities.
The Democrats hang on to power at all costs because they prize power more than dignity, utility, and the good of the country. That not only tells you about their priorities. It tells you a lot about the ethics of the Democrats themselves.
