Biden-Harris Response to Hurricane Helene Is Worse Than Incompetent

You know by now that the Biden-Harris administration response to the damage from Hurricane Helene has been as much a disaster as the storm itself.

The U.S. runs the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) whose sole purpose is to help Americans prepare for and recover from natural and man-made disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and critical infrastructure failures such as power outages. It receives billions of dollars of taxpayer funding from you and me and everyday Americans.

Hurricane Helene was predicted to be a monster storm before it made landfall, and it lived up to that prediction. That would normally be a major disaster, but Helene moved up the Appalachian Valley in Western Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina and parts of Tennessee instead of going offshore into the Atlantic as usually happens. Those areas are not as accustomed to hurricanes as coastal areas and were not as well prepared.

Mountains lift storms to higher altitudes where moisture condenses (due to colder, thinner air) and pours down like wringing a wet sponge. When the rain hits lower elevations, it cascades into narrow river valleys instead of spreading out as it does in marshlands. This causes massive floods that destroy everything in their path and kill hundreds.

What happened in those mountains after Helene was one of the greatest natural disasters in U.S. history. Hundreds are dead, tens of thousands are cut off without food, water or electricity, and access roads have been destroyed. And what was the government response? Here’s the answer in a story that will bring tears to your eyes.

It took FEMA a week just to show up instead of being pre-positioned. When volunteers such as the Cajun Navy (a civilian rescue group that emerged from Hurricane Katrina in 2005), Samaritan’s Purse (led by evangelical Franklin Graham) and Elon Musk’s SpaceX engineers tried to come to the rescue, they were blocked by FEMA. One SpaceX engineer reported, “FEMA is actively blocking shipments and seizing goods and services locally and locking them away to state they are their own. It’s very real and scary how much they have taken control to stop people helping.”

The story goes on to describe outright interference by FEMA in various rescue efforts. This story is not about incompetence. It’s about the utter disregard for human life and disdain for rural victims shown by the Biden-Harris administration and the Washington elites. The sooner these inhumane thugs are run out of Washington the better.
