An Open Border Is More Than Just an Insult. It’s the End of Our Civilization.

We’re all familiar with the situation on the U.S. border with Mexico. It’s not as if the border is just easy to cross. It’s wide open. There’s nothing stopping anyone from coming in at any time.

As many as 8 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since Biden became president. They’re not mostly Mexicans. They’re Venezuelans, Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Cubans, as well as illegals from around the world, including Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Vietnam, and Pakistan.

How many are terrorists? No one knows, but there are certainly some. How many are murderers, rapists, psychopaths, and drug addicts? A substantial percentage, based on arrests and behavior after they arrive.

Who benefits from this? The main beneficiaries are the Mexican cartels, who are making billions of dollars acting as “coyotes” to bring the illegals into the U.S. The cartels are making billions of dollars more smuggling fentanyl, which is killing Americans by the hundreds of thousands.

This disaster permitted by Joe Biden is dissected expertly by Victor Davis Hanson, an esteemed historian. Hanson points out that the situation is now so bad that even the progressives are starting to scream.

Mayor Adams of New York says New York City is being destroyed by the illegals, but the White House turns a deaf ear. The virtue-signaling liberals who favored “sanctuary cities” are beginning to change their tune now that the illegals are destroying hotels and entire neighborhoods close to where they live. Progressives who thought they were immune from the illegal onslaught are discovering they’re not immune as drug addicts drop needles near their children’s’ schools and neighbors are beaten up by illegal immigrant thugs.

Hanson has this right, but an analyst could go much further.

The Roman Republic (c. 400 BC – 31 BC) and the Roman Empire in the West (31 BC – 476 AD) were both very protective of the status of “citizen.” Rome occasionally extended citizenship status to conquered people and territories under their control, but they only did so after decades (or longer) of loyal behavior and only on a limited basis.

There was no blanket amnesty or open borders. Rome fought many of its most difficult battles precisely to control its borders with present day Germany and Eastern Europe. This changed in the mid-third century AD when Rome finally did give citizenship to everyone who entered their empire.

That’s when the idea of “Roman” began to fade. That’s when the special privileges of citizenship began to mean nothing. And that was the beginning of the end of the Roman Empire and the fall of its civilization.

Citizenship is not a free good. It grants privileges and comes with responsibilities. It’s what holds a nation together. When you erase the meaning of citizenship, you erase the nation.

That’s what’s going on at the southern border. The neo-Marxists at the White House understand this perfectly. They know they’re destroying America. That’s exactly what they want.
