NY Judge Puts a Gag Order on Trump to Cover Up His Own Wrongdoing
We’ve been following the numerous lawsuits and criminal charges against Donald Trump closely.
On the one hand, the Democrats’ lawfare campaign has not dented Trump’s popularity. Every time a new criminal or civil case was filed against Trump, his popularity and lead in the polls went up. Apart from the unfairness and unethical conduct involved in these lawsuits, Americans are struck by Trump’s resolute posture and willingness to fight back.
The Palm Beach classified documents case is moving very slowly, partly because the classified information involved has to be handled carefully by the defense, the prosecution, and the court. The Washington DC, January 6 case is tied up on appeal to the Supreme Court about Trump’s claim of presidential immunity. The Supreme Court won’t decide that issue until late June and it seems unlikely the case can be wrapped up before the election on November 5.
Trump got some relief in the New York business records case when the Appellate division reduced the size of the bond needed to appeal from $550 million to $175 million. Trump was able to post that smaller bond and file the appeal, so none of his properties will be sold at least until the appeal is decided.
The Fulton County, Georgia, case is imploding due to the unethical and possibly illegal conduct of District Attorney Fani Willis and her hand-picked prosecutor (and secret lover). So far, so good for Trump.
But there is one criminal case moving full-speed ahead, and that’s the Stormy Daniels hush money case in Manhattan. The clownish DA Alvin Bragg and the biased judge Juan Merchan are conducting a trial practically guaranteed to get a criminal conviction from a pro-Democrat New York jury.
Trump has exercised his First Amendment rights to express his complaints about the judge and his daughter. The First Amendment does not protect threats of violence, but Trump has not made any. He simply points out that the judge’s daughter, 37-year-old Loren Merchan, is a paid Democratic political consultant who is engaged in fundraising based on Trump’s trial and stands to make even more money if Trump is convicted.
It’s a clear-cut conflict of interest. The judge should recuse himself. Instead, the judge has slapped a gag order on Trump preventing him from criticizing the judge or his daughter.
That’s about what one would expect from the corrupt New York state legal system. This trial is scheduled to begin on April 15, and it may be the first trial to result in an actual criminal conviction of Trump.
Perhaps Trump can slow things down by appealing the gag order on First Amendment grounds. That said, the New York hush money case is the flimsiest case of all, and Americans can see right through the abuse of the justice system. A conviction may be more of an embarrassment to New York than to Trump.
