Ukraine Got So Many Weapons That the U.S. And Europe Now Have None
The War in Ukraine began its current stage in February 2022 with the Russian Special Military Operation intended to uphold the rights of Russian-speaking citizens residing in the Donbas section of Ukraine, who had been under attack by the Neo-Nazis in Kyiv.
Of course, the antecedents go back much further to the 2008 declaration by George W. Bush that Ukraine would join NATO, to the 2014 coup sponsored by the CIA and MI6 that forced a duly elected pro-Russian president out of office. Putin responded to that Western coup by seizing Crimea. Anyone who did not understand the importance of Ukraine to Russia after Crimea was either stupid or grossly incompetent. The U.S. seems to have both types in high office.
Once the war escalated in 2022, the U.S. and NATO began supplying Ukraine with a long list of advanced weapons including Challenger and Leopard tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Patriot anti-missile systems, Storm Shadow cruise missiles, Javelin anti-tank weapons, drones, HIMARS precision artillery, and much more.
To date, every one of those systems has failed, despite occasional strikes on Russian controlled targets. The Patriot systems have been blown up by Russian hypersonic missiles. The Challengers, Leopards and Bradleys have been left burning on the battlefield due to Russian mines and artillery. The drones and Storm Shadows are routinely shot down by advanced Russian S-400 anti-missile systems. The HIMARS proved worthless once the Russians learned how to jam the GPS signals on which their guidance systems depend.
Can things get worse for the U.S. and NATO? The answer is yes, as reported here.
The West’s original theory of the war was that Western military supplies (and lots of cash) would enable Ukraine to defeat Russia on the battlefield while the war itself would exhaust Russia militarily and pave the way for regime change in Moscow.
The opposite has happened. Putin put the Russian economy on a war footing, enlistment in the Russian military is soaring, and Russia is winning on all parts of the Ukrainian battlespace. It’s the West that’s suffering by seeing its arsenals drained.
We’re running out of ammunition, artillery shells, drones and other key systems even as Germany and the UK are depleted of tanks and missiles. The West is losing the war politically, economically and now in the armaments supply chain.
We are badly exposed if we engage in the Israeli – Hamas war or another conflict breaks out in China or Africa. You can add this situation to Biden’s long list of blunders.
