U.S. Ready To Send Abrams Tanks To Ukraine. It’s Too Late And All For Show.

We’ve written extensively about how the escalation of the War in Ukraine is on a path to nuclear war. This is something that has been studied theoretically since the late 1950s and actually played out with near misses in the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1961, and the Able Archer incident in 1983.

The lesson from those cases and the consensus of scholars is that nuclear war will not come from an impetuous decision, but from a steady escalation that leaves one party no choice but to consider using nuclear weapons to fend off an existential threat. In that scenario, the less threatened party may actually launch nuclear weapons first to prevent the more threatened party from having a first-strike advantage. Such is the logic of nuclear warfighting and it’s compelling.

Unfortunately, the White House seems not to understand this doctrine of non-escalation (or de-escalation if the escalation has already begun). It’s not clear whether they are miseducated, not that bright, or believe they’re smart enough to go to the edge without tipping into nuclear war. That would make them smarter than John Kennedy, Dean Rusk, Robert McNamara, and Ronald Reagan, all of whom knew how to back off when the situation got too dangerous.

Since the Biden team are not in the same league as those historic figures, we are in real danger. The U.S. supplied Ukraine with stinger and javelin anti-tank weapons. We provided surveillance, intelligence and satellite imagery. Now, as reported in this article, the U.S. plans to supply Ukraine with top-of-the-line Abrams tanks.

These tanks will be deployed alongside UK Challenger tanks and German Leopard II tanks to create several armored brigades. Next on Ukraine’s shopping list are F-16s, one of our most formidable fighter jets.

Russia has not stood still. They are using Turkish and Iranian drones, and have laser-guided long-range artillery that can take out Ukrainian troops and artillery. Russia also has a new armored AI-guided robot tank killer called Marker that can destroy the Abrams tanks from a distance.

Next up are Russian hypersonic missiles that strike at five times the speed of sound and cannot be stopped by known anti-missile defenses. The de-escalation should have started long ago. The peace talks should be well underway by now. Instead, we’re on the deadly path of escalation that nuclear war experts warned about sixty years ago.

Biden is bitter, angry, and badly misguided. Putin cannot back down because the situation is existential for Russia. Nuclear war is still on the table and growing increasingly likely. Make sure you have food, water, silver, and gold in sufficient quantity to weather this nuclear storm.
