Stupid Science Brings Forth Stupid Inventions
We’ve written frequently about the false science of climate change and the extreme climate alarmism embraced by global elites and their flunky pseudo-scientist collaborators. For the record, let’s look at some of the lies and misrepresentations used by the climate alarmists.
The planet did undergo a mild warming spell from 1985 to 1999 (not unusual) but has been cooling since then. Some experts predict continued cooling into something like a Little Ice Age including one notable episode, 1600 – 1649.
Hurricanes are not more frequent, nor of greater intensity (the peak for hurricanes was in the 1940s). Reports of greater financial damage from hurricanes are because of inflation and the result of subsidized federal flood insurance, which encourages the wealthy to build mansions on sandbars where they have no business being.
Tornadoes are not more frequent. Snowfall in the U.S. is on the decline. Sea levels are rising, but only at a rate of 7 inches per century, which will not cause islands to disappear under the waves and will not inundate the New York subway system. That 7-inch per century increase dates back to 1895, long before CO2 emissions were significant.
For that matter, CO2 is a trace gas (about 0.04% of the atmosphere) with no ascertainable effect on climate.
The real drivers of climate change are ocean temperatures, volcanoes, the tilt of the earth (it wobbles), and sun cycles. Climate change is slow (the last major Ice Age ended 10,000 years ago), and there is no existential crisis on the horizon. That said, the bogus claims of the climate alarmists have now led to equally dumb ideas on what to do about it.
This story reports on an inventor who is releasing chemicals into the atmosphere with high-altitude balloons. The chemicals reflect sunlight and are designed to cool the earth.
My first reaction is: Who asked him? If I want things cooler, I can just open a window or turn up the air conditioner. Why is it OK to pollute the environment with his chemicals to promote cooling, which is already happening naturally?
It’s a good example of how one dumb idea (climate alarm) leads quickly to another (spreading chemicals in the atmosphere).
