Europe Is Slowly Discovering That Sanctions Don’t Work
Remember the early days of the War in Ukraine? From the invasion date on February 24, 2022, through mid-April, we heard non-stop propaganda about how Ukraine was winning, Russia was bogged down, Putin was about to be deposed, and Western sanctions would bring Russia to its knees.
I said that was all wrong at the time and have been under relentless attack from the Ukrainian IT Army on social media ever since.
I can deal with the robots. Can American deal with reality?
Here’s what’s actually going on: The Armed Forces of Ukraine are slowly being annihilated. The weapons shipments don’t matter because they are too few and too late. Many of the weapons are being destroyed by the Russians before they reach the front. Other weapons do reach the front and can’t be used because the troops have not been trained, the weapons lack ammunition, or the weapons are quickly sold on the black market for cash.
The sanctions are a complete failure. The Russian ruble is actually stronger today than when the war began. (Remember when Biden said he was going to “destroy” the ruble?).
Russia is making more money than ever because of higher prices for oil and natural gas. Europe is in recession, and the U.S. is on the brink of a recession partly because of higher prices and input shortages caused by the sanctions.
All of this was predictable, and we did predict it all along for our readers. Now Europe is having second thoughts about following Joe Biden over a cliff.
As described in this article, Europe is beginning to see the global costs of sanctions, including possible mass starvation due to grain export shortages.
There has been a lot of bombastic talk about cutting off exports of coal, oil, and natural gas from Russia but very little real action. It’s becoming more clear that the energy sanctions make no sense, are not feasible, and are being driven more by climate alarmists than practitioners of realpolitik.
Biden abandoned allies and let U.S. Marines, sailors, and soldiers be killed in his surrender in Afghanistan. Biden will abandon Zelensky and Ukraine in due course.
The Europeans are at last waking up to Biden’s history of bad decisions and stabs in the back. Soon, the Europeans will push for peace talks with Russia and an end to sanctions. That will be good for the world and one more failure for the demented Joe Biden.
