Thought We Were Done With COVID? Guess Again.

We’re just past the second anniversary of the major outbreak of COVID in the U.S. There have been five waves of infections since then, vaccine mandates, mask mandates, and one government lie after another.

Masks don’t work, the vaccines don’t work to stop the infection and spread (they do reduce severe symptoms in some cases), lockdowns don’t work, and quarantines don’t work.

The best course was always to get outside without a mask and enjoy some exercise, sunshine, and fresh air. Instead, the government kept people cooped up at home where the home itself acted as a COVID incubator and increased the spread of the disease. In fact, most cases are mild or even asymptomatic.

The fatality rate is quite low. The only vaccine that works is the disease itself, which produces natural antibodies that protect you against further infection. It’s fair to say that the American people (and many in Europe and elsewhere) are through with the disease, are rejecting phony scientists, and just want to return to normal.

That said, there’s still one place that is pursuing idiotic policies doomed to failure and that is making the disease worse. That place is China.

As described in this article, China has now begun to lockdown Beijing just a few weeks after locking down Shanghai because of COVID outbreaks. Beijing and Shanghai are two of the largest cities in the world – Beijing has over 22 million residents and Shanghai has over 26 million.

The lockdowns going on are extreme. Curfews are imposed, people in affected areas are not allowed to leave their homes, factories are shut-down, transportation is shut-down, food is scarce and millions of infected are being moved to large concentration camps outside the city limits until they complete two weeks in isolation.

All of this is being done in the name of China’s Zero Covid policy announced by the Communist Party of China and directed by Chairman Xi Jinping. This policy is bound to fail. It’s like announcing a Zero Cold policy and locking up everyone who catches a cold.

The irony is that the policy makes the Chinese more vulnerable to the disease because it delays herd immunity that comes from a large percentage of the population getting the disease and surviving with natural antibodies.

Just because the policy is idiotic, that doesn’t mean it won’t be continued. You can expect the Zero Covid policy to continue at least through the 20^th Party Congress, which takes place next November.

In the meantime, the world’s second-largest economy will suffer random shutdowns of nodes that will further disrupt critical supply chains in manufacturing and shipping. This is one more reason we see a global recession on the horizon.
